The Sliding Knot

I was still in high school when I saw Doug Henning perform the Sliding Knot during one of his television specials.

There are moments in magic that literally take my breath away.

They fill me with wonder and joy.

Watching Doug do this effect was one of those moments for me.

It was then and continues to be one of my all-time favorite magic effects.

I performed the effect only a handful of times.

I recently posted one of my performances.

You can view it here.

This performance of The Sliding Knot was from a show I performed in Lititz Pennsylvania in 1990. I cringe a little bit when I watch it, but I still love the effect of a sliding knot.

Paul Curry invented the trick.

As far as I know, it was first performed by Doug Henning.

Jim Steinmeyer developed the version I am doing.

Tony Clark has a slightly different variation, and Pavel created the same effect with an entirely different method.

It was Doug Henning’s performance that inspired me.

This is my performance:

Sadly, I was not able to locate footage of Doug doing the effect, but I did find three others.

I hope your life is magical.

Much love,
