Jehovah Jireh The Lord Will Provide
The God we love and serve is known to His people by His name.
In the Old Testament, the Lord expressed a specific attribute of His personality in His name.
In Genesis 22, we read the story of Abraham, who, in obedience to God’s call on his life, took his only son Isaac up a mountain to sacrifice his son’s life to the Lord.
The Lord stopped Abraham before the sacrifice could be made and provided instead “a ram caught in a thicket.”
The Lord provided for Abraham (verse 13), “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh,” meaning The Lord Will Provide.
We serve a God who knows our needs before we ask.
I was reminded today of an event that happened to my wife and me when we obeyed God and followed His call on our lives to study in seminary in Springfield, Missouri.
We left our home.
We had little money, and what little money we had was quickly disappearing.
We asked for prayer that God would provide.
One Sunday afternoon, my wife was on the phone with her mother.
Her mother was trying to encourage Janis to seek employment.
She said, “Jobs don’t come knocking on your door.”
No sooner did Janis get off the phone there was a knock on our door.
When we opened it, a man stood there in a business suit wearing a ten-gallon cowboy hat.
He smiled when he saw us and said, “I understand you are looking for work.”
A job literally came knocking on our door in answer to prayer.
Whatever your need today, call on Jehovah Jireh and know that He will provide.
Much love,
